RMHS Guidance Happenings

Sophomore Parent Night: We hope all sophomore parents will join us for a presentation from the guidance department on January 29th at 6:30pm in the PAC with break out groups to follow. The presentation centers around helping your child explore their interests, grow their passions, and prepare for post-high school plan.

Reading Scholarship Foundation

Application is now available to seniors and past graduates at https://readingsf.org/

Application due on or before March 3, 2020

Last year, RSF awarded over $185,507 to 175 students. Since 1970, they have awarded $4,034, 848 to over 5,487 students. We highly encourage seniors to explore this opportunity.

RMHS Music Department – GUYS’ NIGHT OUT: FEBRUARY 7!

Guys Night Out on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020! This free event is open to all male choral students at RMHS, Parker, and Coolidge. Advance registration is required at http://rmhschoirs.weebly.com  Each student is encouraged to bring a guest, such as a male friend, younger or older brother, dad, uncle, grandpa, etc.

Here’s a tentative schedule:

3:30-4:30 PM: Optional vocal percussion workshop

4:30-5:00 PM: Meet and greet on Main Street

5:00-6:30 PM: Combined rehearsal in the RMHS Performing Arts Center with all students and guests

6:30-7:00 PM: Pizza dinner

7:00 PM: Free public concert begins! Invite your parents!

Free Parent Workshop – Presented by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan – January 23rd, 6 -7 p.m. at the Wood End School. – Tonight

Please join us this Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 p.m. (BABYSITTING WILL BE AVAILABLE), in the Wood End Cafe for a very special presentation by Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan. She will be talking about substance abuse (including vaping), mental health issues and trauma affecting our kids today.

February 11 at 7:00 p.m., in the RMHS library media center.

A representative from the Federation for Children with Special Needs is scheduled to put on a Basic Rights Presentation on “Understanding the IEP.” This will include valuable information for parents of children receiving special education, and/or parents who think their child(ren) might be in need of receiving special education.

Industrial Composting: Getting to Zero Waste, Sunday February 2nd, 12:15-1:45 PM Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading Sanctuary 239 Woburn Street, Reading

The Green Sanctuary Climate Justice Group of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading is offering an educational forum that describes industrial composting presently available to residents of towns in Eastern MA.

The presentation and discussion will be led by Andrew Brousseau, partner and compost manager of Black Earth Compost, located on Cape Ann. Topics will include the science of the composting process as well as ease and benefits of sustainable waste management including weekly curbside pickup of food waste for residential, commercial, and municipal customers.

There will be time for Q & A with Mr. Brousseau and information on how to get started.
